Steve Kaplan brings his Comedy Intensive to Hollywood

When the 3 return to the room, what ensues is confusion, chaos, and of course: Comedy – all without having written a single line.
Lesson here: Comedy is not about writing funny lines. You don’t need trained actors or even jokes to create comedy. All need is to set up a situation where needs are blocked. Many a classic comedy has cracked up the audience with a scene where the 2 main characters are at cross-purposes and neither knows what the other really wants or needs.
Abbott & Costello were famous for this, ask anyone who’s seen their classic “Who’s on First?” bit.
Kaplan, who has worked with such comedy greats as Jack Black, Nathan Lane and Kathy Griffin has created an intensive that works for all professions – writers, actors, directors, producers – because his focus is on the answer to that elusive question: What is comedy?
Weaving material from the great American comic voices – Mel Brooks, Bob Hope, Jerry Seinfeld - he's presenting the Comedy Intensive next weekend, June 28 and 29 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. Click here for details.
But be prepared – He just might pull you out of the audience and reveal that you, too, are incredibly funny.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
