Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo, and Alicia Keys have signed on to play the eccentric beekeeping sisters in Fox Searchlight's "The Secret Life of Bees."
Set in South Carolina in 1964, story centers on Lily Owens (Dakota Fanning), who escapes her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father by running away with her caregiver and only friend, played by Jennifer Hudson, and is taken in by the sisters.
Based on the best selling novel by Sue Monk Kidd, "Bees" will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Jack Leslie alongside James Lassiter, Will Smith and Joe Pichirallo for Fox Searchlight.
Shooting begins January 9 in North Carolina.
