2 Comedies take Golden Globe noms
'
Bless The Golden Globes for acknowledging that comedies need love, too. Every year they are the only major awards organization to bestow a statuette to the best in comedy. But, jeesh, did they have to make it "Musical or Comedy?" In your average year, that wouldn't be a problem, but this year saw a record number of musicals, all of them genre-busting, out-of-the-box, and yes, downright exciting. What a year it's been for fans. 'Once,' 'La Vie en Rose,' 'Across the Universe,' 'Sweeney Todd,' 'Rock Hard,' 'Hairspray,' 'Enchanted,' 'Control,' the list goes on. Singing has been busting out all over, even in non-musical films like 'Juno,' and 'Waitress.'
While we are thrilled to see this renaissance, it did put the squeeze on our favorite genre - Comedy.
This morning when the Golden Globes announced their nominations for the 2007, two - that's right, only 2 - comedies made the list -- 'Charlie Wilson's War,' and 'Juno.'
'Charlie Wilson's War' lead the comedies with 5 nominations, starting with Picture, Musical or Comedy, and Screenplay by Aaron Sorkin. 'War's cast all received noms, Tom Hanks for Actor, Musical or Comedy, and Julia Roberts for Supporting Actress, and Philip Seymour Hoffman for Supporting Actor.
